Founder's Story
Luz founded Luz Candles in 2023, inspired by a personal journey of grief following the loss of her father.
She began crafting candles for the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead, wanting to honour his memory.
What started as a comforting ritual soon became a daily practice, bringing her peace and healing.
Over time, this passion evolved into a business, one where every handmade candle is still made deeply from the heart.

Frequently asked questions about Burning Candles
How long should I burn my candle each time?
Burn your candle for 1–3 hours per session, or until the wax melts evenly across the surface. Avoid burning for more than 4 hours at a time.
Why is my candle tunnelling?
Tunnelling occurs when the candle is not burned long enough for the wax to melt edge to edge, especially on the first burn.
Why is my candle smoking or flickering excessively?
This usually happens when the wick is too long or the candle is placed in a draughty area. Trim the wick and move the candle away from airflow.
Do I need to trim the wick every time?
Yes. Trim the wick to about 5 mm before each burn to ensure a clean, even flame.
Can I leave my candle burning unattended?
No. Always stay in the room while a candle is burning and keep it away from children, pets, and flammable objects.
Why is soot forming on the jar or wall?
Soot is commonly caused by a long wick, drafts, or burning the candle for too long. Regular wick trimming (5 mm) helps prevent this.
When should I stop burning my candle?
Stop using the candle when about 1.5 cm of wax remains at the bottom to avoid overheating the container.
Can I move my candle while it’s burning?
No. Always extinguish the candle and allow it to cool completely before moving it.
Why does my candle flame look too large?
A large flame usually means the wick needs trimming. Extinguish the candle, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight.
